De Kwekerij: 244 homes for students and starters
Two years ago, construction began on the site, which has been renamed De Kwekerij, a sustainable development by Jebber that focuses on “Green and Healthy”. Students now live in the 16-storey Sequoia student complex, and this year, 2021, construction of even more homes will start. Those 244 rental homes for starters, in a total of six buildings, will be built by Dura Vermeer in the form of LEGOlisation and will be ready in 15 months. Jebber aims to achieve at least BREEAM two stars for De Kwekerij.
There are four 2-room dwellings on each floor. Due to the shape of the buildings, all homes are located at an angle, allowing for plenty of daylight and views. The surface area of the homes is approximately 45 m², divided into a living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The ready-made prefabricated façade elements from Machiels Building Solutions (produced in Genk) are delivered just in time, which considerably shortens the construction period.
In total, there will be around 840 new homes for students and starters. They must all be completed by 2023.
