The new police station will be a sustainable and energy-efficient project.
The new police building will be a forward-looking, energy-efficient and sustainable project, combining modern architecture with high-performance construction techniques.
The building comprises three storeys and features a structural framework of concrete columns, beams, walls and hollow-core slabs. The façade will be finished with prefabricated timber-frame elements featuring timber cladding, manufactured and installed by Machiels Building Solutions. A perimeter wall will provide a clear boundary and screening for the site.
Sustainability is at the heart of the design. The building will be entirely gas-free and will incorporate geothermal energy, a heat pump and climate ceilings to ensure efficient heating and cooling. The project also aims to achieve high energy performance in line with passive building principles, while generating renewable energy through photovoltaic panels.
Vandenbussche Bouw is responsible for the complete delivery of the project, from the structural works through to the finishing works, including all building services and external landscaping. Prior to the start of construction, an existing house was demolished to prepare the site for development.
One of the key challenges is ensuring that police services can continue to operate throughout the entire construction period. The works will therefore be carefully phased, requiring close coordination, particularly with regard to connections to the existing building and the integration of the various technical installations.
Completion of this sustainable and energy-efficient police building is scheduled for spring 2027.
