MBS builds 250 sustainable holiday villas in just 10 months
The Terhills holiday park in Belgium with its 250 villas is a sustainable resort blending into its natural surroundings. There will be five types of villas, each of them providing waterside accommodation for 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12 people. All these energy-efficient villas were industrially prefabricated using sustainable materials at MBS’s plant in Genk and erected using the timber-frame construction method, a fast and sustainable building technique that is gaining ground in the holiday sector.
In just 10 months, we produced and assembled 250 holiday homes, despite the problems posed by the coronavirus crisis. That speed is down to the construction method: we prefabricated the houses at our industrial plant in Genk and then transported the prefab timber-frame construction components (including joinery, façade cladding, roof cladding and interior walls) to Terhills and assembled the villas on the former mining site. This meant we could easily erect two houses a day – which is unheard of with traditional construction methods.
This production capacity gives Machiels Building Solutions a unique position on the market for large and complex timber-frame construction projects.
