The SOK is set to become the new home ground for SK Deurne football club, near Diest.
The City of Diest opted for a circular and future-oriented construction solution, using CLT (cross-laminated timber) as the structural framework. The building was designed according to a modular grid of 5 × 5 metres, making the structure flexible, demountable and adaptable. Materials can be reused or exchanged in the future, thereby preserving their residual value. In addition, the project focuses on renewable energy and a climate-responsive design, with maximum recovery of rainwater and waste water.
For the construction, the original budget was increased from €3 million to €4.8 million. The project was put out to tender as a DBm (Design, Build & Maintenance) contract, combining design, construction and part of the maintenance within a single integrated contract.
