Anthéa: a transformation from office building to a sustainable residential environment.
The project involved converting an office building into 48 flats and one office unit.
The aim of the architect, Urban Platform, was to make maximum use of the existing situation: a building from the 1980s that stood out for its open floor plan, concrete column and beam construction, and a prefabricated façade that could be completely dismantled. The renovation was based on the principles of deconstruction, circularity and carbon neutrality, whereby the existing structures were retained and dry construction processes were used as the main technique. The dismantled façade elements were reused as cladding for the ground floor façade and integrated into the landscaping.
High-quality prefabricated building elements from Machiels Building Solutions were used for the new design. These industrially manufactured, circular elements ensured efficient execution, limited site impact and a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. They also made it possible to divide the residential units flexibly and easily adapt them to future needs.
In this way, an outdated office building was transformed into a contemporary, sustainable living environment in which reuse, innovation and future-proof construction were central.
